There was no doubt in my mind that our son was going to be DJ Lance Rock for Halloween. I was thinking of buying the ready-made outfit, but I decided to make it. I wanted it to be extra special so he could wear it to the Yo Gabba Gabba Live show in LA.
I bought an orange union suit from Amazon and my co-worker attached white and yellow ribbon. She sewed the larger trim and used hemming tape for the rest. She originally used rhinestones for the belt to spell out "rock" but they ended up falling off. So when she gave it to me, I found silver, lettered stickers from Michael's and attached it to white felt. I used double-sided fabric tape (also bought from Michael's) to attach the felt to the belt.
For the hat, I used an old beanie and attached 2 orange, feather boas using the double-sided fabric tape (note: you should attach the boas in sections or else you won't be able to stretch the beanie over your kid's head!). For the hat's finishing touch, I used orange and gray felt to make the star (I just drew the stars by free-hand).
Lastly, I bought a white turtle-neck for my son to wear underneath his orange suit and white Nikes (with silver trim!) from Marshall's, and popped out the lens from children sunglasses for the glasses.
Everything lasted through Halloween and the concert, except some of the feathers and stickers started to come off. Next time, I would use the letters to trace the words and color it in with a silver pen or marker. Overall, the final product looked awesome on my son and added to our family's enjoyment.
Isley even carried the YGG boombox the entire time while trick-or-treating!
