November is a very exciting month for Yo Gabba Gabba fans! For the past several months, we have been anxiously anticipating the release of the Yo Gabba Gabba Comic Anthology and Comic Board Books, published by Oni Press! Oni Press is a one of the most respected and highly-esteemed publishing houses in independent comics, and their partnership with Yo Gabba Gabba could not possibly make more sense!
Earlier this year, the official press release from Wildbrain, the company that has produced Yo Gabba Gabba for the past three seasons, stated, "Oni Press editor in chief James Lucas Jones was an instant fan of the program and immediately saw the possibilities for an innovative and engaging translation to comics. 'Seeing the show Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz created was a revelation. These were parents who grew up on the same music, television, movies, comics, and video games I did and it comes through every aspect of the show. In addition to creating a group of charming and iconic characters, they consistently bring in top-notch folks to contribute to the program like Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh, House of Fun's Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer, Biz Markie, the Aquabats and all of the outstanding bands in the Super Music Friends Show. I'm pleased as punch for Oni Press to be joining such a talented and groundbreaking group of creators.'"
Fans will be treated to works from some of the finest artists in our day including J. Torres, Chris "Elio" Eliopoulos, and Matt Loux, just to name a FEW of the brilliantly talented people involved! The best thing about this amazing collaboration is that Oni Press is offering something for everyone! For adult fans, a full-color 128-page hardcover anthology will be released on November 23, 2010, and for the Yo Gabba Gabba target audience (ages 1-5), Board Comic Books will be released starting November 17th, though we know the adults are all going to love those too!
Gabba Ball by Chris "Elio" Eliopoulos
Release Date: November 17, 2010

The first board book to be released is titled "Gabba Ball" by Chris "Elio" Eliopoulos! Any dedicated Yo Gabba Gabba fan will recognize Elio's unique style from a few different animated segments on the show!
Gabba Ball is a story about our favorite Gabba Friends and their new game Gabba Ball. The characters show us how they each can play with a ball, and it is a very humorous tale, but you will have to read the book to find out who actually wins the game of Gabba Ball! You won't find any spoilers here! The art work is an amazing new interpretation of the Gabba characters, and Elio made sure to include a large number of the lesser seen friends including Archibald and the flying toast, all illustrated in his own special way. Really, this is a very humorous book, front to back. You and your children will want to incorporate a game of Gabba Ball into your playtime routine after reading this book!
We were extremely fortunate in having the opportunity to ask Elio and J. Torres some interview questions about their books. Here is the insight Elio gave us:
What is your connection to Oni Press and Yo Gabba Gabba?
I designed and directed a few animated segments on Yo Gabba Gabba the television show. Oni Press is publishing brand new Yo Gabba Gabba comic books this year, and I was super lucky enough to be asked to write and draw one. I’m also best friends with Brobee, love playing video games with Muno, and ice fishing with Toodee.
What inspires you to draw and write for children?
I like telling stories that are fun for everyone. Drawing and writing for all ages, I get to be silly, bright, and have a lot of energy. I’m inspired by old television shows, entertainment written for the entire family to laugh at.
Could you share any stories about any "ah-ha!" moments, or any insights on what it was like drawing and writing for your new Yo Gabba Gabba board book?
I wanted to make sure to include everyone’s favorite character into the book (and even add some secret cameos!) DJ Lance Rock, Brobee, Muno, Foofa, Plex and Toodee all have their own little parts. They get to be themselves and stand out. But also share and enjoy playing together. Something that I think matches the show’s spirit.
Good Night, Gabba Land by J. Torres
Release Date: November 30, 2010

Good Night, Gabba Land by J. Torres, and illustrated by Matt Loux, is another amazing artist's interpretation of our favorite Gabba Friends. This story tackles the bedtime routine using rhyme, and once your children have read and enjoyed this book, they will wind down alongside Muno, Foofa, Plex, Brobee, and Toodee! Like Elio's illustrations, Matt Loux included other supporting GabbaLand cast in this story's illustrations. They really "get" us, as Yo Gabba Gabba fans. We, and our children, LOVE Gooble, Super Soapy Pal, and all of their friends, and it's clear that the authors of these books are true fans themselves. To see them incorporated into the stories with such brilliant artistry and vibrant colors, these stories are a real treat for the senses.
Again, we were so lucky to have the opportunity to ask J. Torres the same set of questions we asked Elio.
What is your connection to Oni Press and Yo Gabba Gabba?
I've been working with Oni Press for close to a decade now. They've published most of my creator-owned work. I got into Yo Gabba Gabba because of my son who turns three soon. It's one of the first TV shows that ever engaged him and it's one of his favorites now. But my wife and I are also fans. My wife was arguably the most excited in our family to meet DJ Lance at the first concert they did in Toronto, and I have the video to prove it!
What inspires you to write for children?
I've always liked stories and storytellers. I learned this from a very early age. To this day, the stories that have stuck with me the longest and resonate with me the most were from books, comics, cartoons, and movies I first discovered as a child. I guess I want to do the same thing with my work, affect and inspire young people with my stories. Or at least entertain them.
Could you share any stories about any "ah-ha!" moments, or any insights on what it was like drawing and writing for your new Yo Gabba Gabba board book?
Well, when Oni asked me to write one of the YGG board comics I tried to think of something my son would like. I thought about a story with a dance theme because he loves to dance. I thought about something that taught new vocabulary and phrases because he was learning to speak at the time. But one night as we were getting him ready for bed and asked him to pick out books for us to read, he reached for "Dance with Brobee" and one of his Sandra Boynton books and I thought, "ah-ha!" I should write a YGG bedtime book in rhyme!
Before we introduce our giveaway, we want to express our most sincerest thanks to the editor in chief of Oni Press, James Lucas Jones, and authors J. Torres, and Chris "Elio" Eliopoulos for their time and help in preparing for this giveaway to the Yo Gabba Gabba fans. We are very appreciative of the extraordinary talents of these three men.

My sons loves YGG and right now I'm struggling throughpotty training. A book with his favorite pals teaching him the tricks would be a big helper!!
I think adoption would be a great subject, for both the adopted child and their friends. It could give children a better understanding that adopted children aren't any different than any other child, and are loved just as much as a child that is not adopted.
Maybe Brobee could be adopted since that is my sons favorite character.
We love Yo Gabba Gabba, and just went to the Live show in Portland Oregon it was Amazing!!!!!!
Thank you
I think there should be a book/comic about how hitting or kicking can hurt somebody, but words can hurt just as much or more.
I think it would be good to have a book about bullying and how to not do it--it's easy for kids, pre-school especially to fall into name calling -- and it would be a good example to have them have an outside character come in and have someone like toodee call them a funny name and everyone explain why that's not nice; it would also show how to be a leader and stand up for something!
A seasonal book. Like Halloween or Christmas adventures. A Super Martian Robot Girl cross-over would also be cool.
I would like to see one made about the beggining and creation of YGG like on youtube when he goes into the forest in his hippie-look. Then find the magical boombox and introduce each character and maybe more about the land and other character and the magic that brings it all together. It would be nice to have a background and to find out info we don't know, or anything with the gang in it is fine as all the adventures rock.
How about a story about treating everybody the same regardless if they look or act different then they do.
I would love to see one that talks about how much their parents love them or why its cool to use the potty!
SHARING IS CARING!!!
I think the Clean episode is sooo great! I really really believe that children listen to what Yo Gabba Gabba says to them!! So I would LOVE to see a comic book about being clean and hygiene. Being the mother of a son, I am dreading when I don't give him a bath myself, like when he is a toddler and I have to make him walk in the shower and wash himself! LOL I think it would be great to have the comic talk about brushing teeth! My friend's son HATED brushing his teeth! We introduced him to Yo Gabba Gabba and he saw the "teeth" episode. Lo and Behold.. HE LOVES TO BRUSH HIS TEETH NOW! LOL Thanks to the song!
I think a story should be about Patriotism- Love of Country, God, community and family and the diversity of the people of the USA.
It would be great help if the Yo Gabba Gabba gang would show my son just how awesome it is to use the big boy potty!
I would like to see a food related book, but more along the lines of Toodee and the "try it, you'll like it" yogurt scenario rather than "Party in my Tummy". Many toddlers (mine included) get so picky about eating at this age, and mine won't even take a bite if it doesn't look right to her. It would be great if the friends in Gabbaland could address not being afraid to try new things (maybe in general) with food included.
I think it would be so great to have a comic book about being clean and and hygiene! I LOVE the "Clean" episode and I think it has such a great message to little ones!! When they see their Yo Gabba Gabba idols cleaning and taking baths, it makes them want to do it too! My friends son HATED brushing his teeth.. until the "Teeth" episode! Now he LOVES to brush his teeth! A book on being clean and taking care of your body by Yo Gabba Gabba would just make it even more important to the kids!!!
All about eating: Yummy in the Tummy. Teach about the Nomnom friends.
I think a book with Super Mr. Superhero and Super Martian Robot girl teaming up would be so much fun. Think Justice League for hip toddlers. My son loves Super Mr. Superhero so much.
I think one about making friends would be good...my daughter is having a tough time learning names of her new pre-school friends!
Thanks for this awesome giveaway!
i thnk they should have one on pets, like hot to take care of them, n how to be cautious of animals they dont know and stuff!!!!!also my daughter loves animals so an episode on pets would be awsome!
a book on naptime would be awesome and helpful.
Kids can use technology at ever younger ages these days. I would love to see a piece about using the computer responsibly.
I know I, as well as many other parents I imagine, would like to see the topic of RESPECT in Yo Gabba Gabba. My son pretty much takes the show as gospel, so I know he would take it to heart. So THAT'S my vote..."respect".
But if I had a second choice, it would be the lesson of "don't wake your father up by bashing him between the eyes with a toy spaceship". That's something I think we ALL can agree on! Ow!
When family comes and is eager to love on my child but he responds in a kind of mean way. Maybe they could have Toodee's aunts and uncles come and be all in her face, maybe pinch her cheeks and she can respond by saying something kind of rude. Maybe her parents can explain why kids shouldn't be disrespectful and that her aunts were just excited to see her. Then they can throw in that song from the babies episode about how babies need their space but changed up a little to fit the scenario. =)
taking care of the elderly would be nice. we saw muno's family and plex's niece in episodes. what about showing brobee's grandparents, they could have brobee reading a book to them, having lunch with them or a walk in the park. children should realize and value the importance of grandparents etc. (after all there are alot of grandparents on this site, chasing down gabba merchandise and attending gabba shows).
I think a book about starting school would be awesome! My little one is having quite a time with it and I think she and others like her need all the reassurance they can get! Thanks :-)
Hey guys, I heard about this through twitter. I couldn't pass up the chance!
I think a neat idea for a book would be about getting up in the morning. It's sometimes difficult, even for me! It could perhaps cover a few good habits to start the day, like changing out of pajamas, brushing your teeth, and eating a good breakfast. I think it would make a nice companion for the Good Night book!
I think a book about new siblings would be great. My three year old would do anything his Gabba friends told him. Ha ha
I would like to see a book on Being clean. It would include cleaning up toys, washing your hands, covering your mouth when you sneeze and cough etc.
I would love a book on getting ready for bed and why we need to brush our teeth etc and sleep so we can be rested for tomorrow. I have the hardest time getting my daughter ready for bed, and if her friends told her to she would do everything they say
i think i had a brain fart since thats what one of the books is about. i would also love to have one about pets and how we have to be nice to them and take care of them... and potty time would be great too!
This is a really great way for gabba fans around the world to provide input and to be part of the Gabbaland mystique on a first hand basis. Thanks for having this really fun contest!
I would love to see a story about friends being there for each other when they're down or feeling alone or simply having a bad day. I've always wondered why Gooble is always crying and maybe this can (possibly) help answer my question.
ALL MY FRIENDS ARE DIFFERENT - BUT I LOVE THEM ALL THE SAME!
I think a YGG board book about potty training would be very helpful. My daughter is almost at that age and she already loves her other YGG board books. I hope we win!!
I think sharing (like from the Share episode) would be AWESOMMMMMMMMMMME!
I hope we win the books, yayeeeeeeeeeee :) Thanks for doing this giveaway, Gabbafriends!
I think it would be really great if they had a board book with the topic of "bad words" and why we shouldn't say them. My daughters are 6 & 3 and they don't understand why a word could be so bad.
I would love to see a book about a childs trip to the doctor to get shots. And how it doesnt hurt for long and how you have to be brave.
I'd love to see one about traveling to foreign lands or outer space and meeting people who are VERY different. Learn about others cultures and how to respect people who are different!
A book about school would be awesome! Get the kids excited about hitting kindergarten and learning! :)
I'd LOVE to see a Gabba Book about SIBLINGS! My DD is still getting used to having a baby sister, and I'd love to see a book about Muno and Baby GoGo!!!!
The Space episode still hasn't been aired in the U.S., so how about a space adventure comic? Just saying.
I would love to see a Yo Gabba Gabba book about reading and libraries. It could help little ones understand what a library is, what you can do there, and how to behave. There could even be a reading related dancey-dance!
YGG Comics...how exciting! I think a book about healthy eating would be good! Brobee's "Party in my tummy" never gets old!
My vote is for a book surrounding potty training. I know I'd love some extra help from the Yo Gabba Gabba gang in teaching my little ones to go!
I think a book about potty training would be a great one!! My son copies everything that Yo Gabba Gabba teaches. I know all the other kids do as well! I know the parents would also love it too & would help out greatly for the toddlers while potty training them.
I think I really need to wins these to go with my other autographed stuff LOL
Okay I need them its not that I want them its I need them LOL
and not just blood related family but also the family you have in school and friends and how even though you do not have the same mommy and daddy you can still be a happy family :)
Great way for kids who love the show to love reading even more!! And get them into comics!!
I would actually like to see the Gabba friends as superheroes again... I think that would be a fitting storyline with them being in a comic, and all!! Plus, my kids both seem to love superheroes... Gabba + Superheroes = a winner
